Bulgarian Category CE and DE Theory Test
The category CE theory test draws on the official ИААА question bank: 125 questions in 5 sections about tractor units, trailers and coupling. Here is the exam format, the sections, and category DE, which has the same format and a different bank.

The ИААА question bank for category CE
ИААА (the Road Transport Administration) publishes every exam question on its public portal, public-eis.rta.government.bg. It is the only official bank, and the category CE test is assembled from the questions in it.
The category CE bank has 125 questions and its current version is dated 01.10.2026. The portal lists it as "CE for holders of category C". The same bank is used for categories C1E and D1E. None of the 125 questions appears in the banks for categories A, B and C.

The 5 sections of the CE and DE banks
Each exam draws an exact number of questions from every section, set by the ИААА exam methodology in force since 12.12.2024. The sections and the exam counts are the same for CE and DE.

How the category CE exam works
The category CE exam is 15 questions in 20 minutes. Each question is worth 1, 2 or 3 points, 29 in total. To pass you need at least 26 points, so you can lose at most 3.
A question only scores if you select exactly all the correct answers and none of the wrong ones - a partly correct answer counts as wrong. During the exam you do not see whether you answered correctly; the result appears at the end. The exam has no video questions.

Category DE: same format, different bank
The category DE bank has 101 questions, dated 01.10.2026, and the portal lists it as "DE for holders of category D". It is nearly the same as the CE bank: 100 of its 101 questions also appear there, so studying for both means very little repetition to skip.
The DE exam has the same format as CE - 15 questions in 20 minutes, 26 of 29 points. The app contains both banks.

What is the format of the category CE theory exam in Bulgaria?

How many points do I need to pass category CE?
At least 26 of 29 points, so you can lose at most 3 points. As on every Bulgarian theory exam, you do not see whether an answer is correct during the test.
