The ИААА question bank for category D
ИААА (the Road Transport Administration) publishes every exam question on its public portal, public-eis.rta.government.bg. It is the only official bank, and the category D test is assembled from the questions in it.
The category D bank has 388 questions and its current version is dated 01.10.2026. The portal lists it as "D for holders of category C1, C and category B with 2 years of experience". The same bank is used for category D1. Of the 388 questions, 179 do not appear in the banks for categories A, B and C.

Each exam draws an exact number of questions from every section, set by the ИААА exam methodology in force since 12.12.2024.

Section 1 is the largest in the bank with 140 questions, but only 2 of them reach the exam. Section 2, keeping the vehicle roadworthy, weighs the most: 4 of the 15 questions, followed by sections 3 and 4 with 3 each.
How the category D exam works
The category D exam is 15 questions in 20 minutes. Each question is worth 1, 2 or 3 points, 32 in total. To pass you need at least 28 points, so you can lose at most 4.
A question only scores if you select exactly all the correct answers and none of the wrong ones - a partly correct answer counts as wrong. During the exam you do not see whether you answered correctly; the result appears at the end.
The category D exam has no video questions.

Trolleybus: if you already hold category D and want to drive a trolleybus, the exam is separate - 15 questions in 20 minutes, 28 of 32 points, in 4 sections (3, 3, 5 and 4 questions) from a bank of 87 questions. In the app it is its own category, Trolleybus.

What is the format of the category D theory exam in Bulgaria?
15 questions in 20 minutes, 32 points in total. Each question is worth 1, 2 or 3 points and only scores if you select exactly the correct answers and nothing else.
How many points do I need to pass category D?
At least 28 of 32 points, so you can lose at most 4 points. As on every Bulgarian theory exam, you do not see whether an answer is correct during the test.
